I would like to take this time to recommend Sweet Pea Children's Books via Monique Duncan. I met this super creative and talented woman while covering a maternity leave at her school. Like Monique, I believe there is a shortage of multicultural children's books on the market. She's taken it upon herself to write and illustrate her own materials to provide readers with a wider range of characters and content. I'm in love with her illustrations and story topics! Head over to SweetPeaChildrensBooks.com to read more about them and the author. Do you actively seek out multicultural books for your classroom or home library? What are some of your favorite children's books that celebrate diversity? How do you introduce the concept of cultural identity through stories? Have you read any of Monique Duncan’s books? What did you think? Why do you believe diverse representation in children’s literature is important? Please leave your comments below. Your feedback is always appreciated.
