What makes this toy stand out is its indestructibility, which is a blessing given my son's love for testing the limits of his playthings. The colorful magnetic letters and their friendly home on our fridge invite him into a world of learning that he can control at his pace—sometimes quite literally, as he enjoys speeding through the letters, and throwing them around haphazardly with glee.

I noticed some reviews said this toy constantly slides down the fridge, but that hasn't been the case for us on the kitchen fridge, mini fridge or dishwasher.  We do however, have magnetic white board contact paper and the actual bus does keep sliding down the wall.  Most of the letters will stick to the white board contact paper but after awhile they also start sliding off.  Again, zero issues with it staying on the fridge even over extended periods of time (days, maybe even weeks at a time).

Unlike traditional paper flashcards, these sturdy, magnetic versions have proven to be a game-changer. These are also a really good size.  Much larger than most flash cards, which is exactly what I was looking for.  I think these are much better for toddlers because they are eye-catching and great for little hands. 

We’ve gotten super creative with them, pairing them with the LeapFrog Fridge Phonics letters for all kinds of fun games. It's amazing how something so simple can open up a world of interactive play and learning. Next, I'm going to tell you about this LeapFrog 2-in-1 LeapTop Touch we got for my son when he was 2. Back then, it was the hit of the house. Seriously, for car rides or just to keep him engaged at home, it was a lifesaver. It flips between a laptop and a tablet, which, you know, sounds like it could be a recipe for disaster with little ones, but we never had a single problem with it. I read some reviews about folks having issues with that flip mechanism, but ours has been solid. And the battery life? Unreal. We're over a year in and haven't needed to change them once. 

​Now that he's 3 and pretty much an alphabet whiz, knowing all his letters and even an animal or object that starts with each one, he's kind of moved on from it. So, this particular board book we've had for about two years now. My son absolutely adores it, but I've got my reservations. It's one of those big, chunky books with huge letters and vibrant pictures on every page, which I admit, is pretty great for little eyes. My son, who's now 3yrs old, is all about it these days. He loves recognizing the images and shouting out what each letter stands for, especially since it's a press and listen book, adding that extra bit of fun for him. Plus, the battery life is surprisingly stellar; we haven't had to swap them out yet.

He can sit with this book for an extended period of time, flipping through, pressing away, and telling me all about what he sees, which honestly, is a pretty big win in terms of keeping him occupied and engaged.

But here's where my love for this book starts to fade. Some of the letter associations just don't sit well with me. Take "N" is for "Needlefish". Why not something more common for most kids like "Noodles"? "U" is for "Utility Truck". What about "up"?  And then there's "B" for "Barn Owl"—I mean, to any kid, that's just an owl, right? Starting with "O," not "B." You'll find a few raised eyebrows from parents on Amazon reviews mentioning similar quirks.

Despite these gripes, I've got to say, the book has become a key player in our little homeschool setup. We pair it with those durable magnetic flashcards I've mentioned before. As we go through the book, my son presses the letters, identifies the images, and then dashes off to find the matching letter on our whiteboard, turning it into a mini scavenger hunt. The design is clever, it’s the right size, and those images are just so adorable. I was convinced this would be the new favorite.

But you know what's crazy? —my son just isn’t into it. I know, right? With all those features, I was sure he’d be all over it. But kids are their own little people, with their own tastes, and sometimes they just surprise you. Despite that, I'm still over here recommending it to all my mom friends. Why? Because it’s genuinely a fantastic learning tool.

Let's be real, finding exceptional books for our kiddos’ mini libraries is like striking gold, especially when we’re on a mission to raise avid readers. My little one has a pretty sweet collection going, with a hefty dose of ABC books because, why not start with the basics, right? Some of our favorites include Patricia Hegarty’s The ABCs of Kindness and The ABCs of Love for Mom. Honestly, they’re just too cute and pack great messages—perfect wind-down material for bedtime. My son is pretty fond of them, and we’re not mad at having a lot of Hegarty’s books on our shelf. Excitingly, I caught wind of The ABCs of Love for Dad making its way to shelves soon, and you bet it’s on our must-have list.

We’re also all about that classic Chicka Chicka Boom Boom life and an Animal ABC book that keeps things lively. But here’s the tea: my son is obsessed with all things vehicles—cars, trucks, boats, planes, helicopters, motorcycles, you name it. So naturally, the Vehicles ABC book was a no-brainer for us. But, and it’s a big but, I have to say, I’m was really let down by the word associations in there. They had the potential to be so much more on point. It’s a bummer because it’s totally his jam, and he loves it, but mama thinks it could’ve been better.
