How do kids get that story started? We all know that writing skills are an essential building block for kids and are what create a solid foundation for their continuing education. If we can make writing fun and get children writing often to reinforce it, hopefully it will just become a regular habit. Having a writing prompt can be motivating and also encourage writing.
Using writing prompts or what I like to call “Imagination Launchers” can not only help get them going but it can help them build skills in areas like, explanation, and problem solving too.
By now you know one of my missions as a storyteller is to help kids learn how to exercise their imagination while building effective listening and writing skills. The magic comes about by sharing the simple secret – “If you can tell a story, you can write a story.” That’s why I’ve created a series of animated writing prompts for your classroom on my YouTube Channel to help your students stretch their imaginations and see the endless possibilities that await them when they put pen to paper.
Launched in 2008, MrsP.com is a free children’s education website celebrating books and reading. Classic children's stories are brought to life by T.V. Actress Kathy Kinney. The annual Be-a-Famous Writer contest for K-4 classroom is held every September.
Mrs. P Skypes with teachers every week sharing lessons on creativity and writing. The site is the recipient of both the National Parenting Center 2009 Seal of Approval and the American Library Associations Great Site for Kids.
