I have some big news to share... I’m a guest speaker at this year’s MSELA Summit! If you’ve never heard of it before, the Middle School English Language Arts (MSELA) Summit is a free 5-day virtual conference designed to support middle school ELA teachers with real strategies, fresh ideas, and actionable tools. And this year… I’ll be one of the featured speakers! Saying Yes Even When It’s ScaryI’ll be honest—this opportunity is a little outside of my comfort zone. I’m an introvert by nature, and I’m usually more comfortable working behind the scenes than being in the spotlight. The idea of doing a recorded interview was definitely nerve-wracking. But I said yes anyway. Why? Because deep down, I know it’s time to stretch myself. I’ve created so many resources over the years that I truly believe can make a difference for teachers and students—especially those supporting learners who are reading and writing well below grade level. If stepping into this space means those resources can reach more educators who genuinely need them, then it’s absolutely worth it. So this summit feels like the right next step for The Teacher Treasury. A chance to connect with a new audience, share what I’ve learned, and hopefully provide tools that bring a little more ease and impact to someone else’s classroom. What I’ll Be Talking About on Day 2Even though I’m not a middle school teacher (and haven’t taught in the classroom in over seven years), the summit organizer, Laura Kebart of LanguageArtsTeachers.com made me feel welcome and valued. She saw the relevance of my Upper Elementary and Special Education background and encouraged me to share my perspective on how to meet struggling readers where they are and how we can support them from the ground up. I’m deeply grateful not just for that encouragement, but for the incredible work Laura has done in organizing this summit. She’s created more than just an event — she’s built a space where educators can come together to exchange ideas, learn from one another, share resources, and support each other’s growth. That kind of professional community is so important, and I’m honored to be a part of it. At the summit, I’ll be sharing:
I remember how overwhelming it can feel to be a teacher with a classroom full of students who are all over the place skill-wise — and no clear roadmap on what to do. My goal is to help however I can by offering resources and strategies that are practical, approachable, and designed with real classroom challenges in mind. If only one thing I share makes your day a little easier or helps a student finally connect with a skill they’ve been struggling with, it’s all worth it. You’re doing important work, and I’m honored to support it in any way I can. What You’ll Walk Away WithBy attending my session, you’ll walk away with:
